About Plastic Surgery

Plastic surgery can be divided into two groups: cosmetic and reconstructive. Cosmetic surgery is performed to reshape normal body structures and improve a person’s appearance. These procedures may not be considered medically necessary, but are performed, this is to increase a person’s confidence and self-esteem. Liposuction, breast augmentation, and tummy tucks are some of the most popular types of cosmetic surgery.

Reconstructive surgery involves those procedures performed to correct abnormal body structures caused by birth defects, trauma, burns, infection, or disease. These types of reconstructive surgery include breast reduction, breast reconstruction, and treatment of skin cancers. This operation is usually covered by health insurance.
