What Takes Place During Augmentation Mastopexy?
Aesthetics is gaining a lot of importance. People are more concerned about their looks more now than ever before. Youthful skin, a well-sculpted body, and healthy thick hair is a dream for most people.
One’s physical attributes are traits that have different perceptions across different people. While some women like having small breasts, others like a big and round bust that fully redefines their bodies. But if a person is not blessed with what they like, there’s always a solution in the world of plastic surgery.
What Is Augmentation Mastopexy?
Augmentation-Mastopexy is a combination of two surgeries that give the individual a voluminous enhanced breast. It is a combination of breast augmentation with implants and breast lift.
Augmentation mammoplasty or breast augmentation is a technique that involves placing breast implants or prosthesis under breast tissue or chest muscles. It changes the shape and size of the breasts.
Breast augmentation is mostly used to increase the size of the breasts. There are three types of implants that are used to perform the procedure and they are:
- Saline implant: It is an elastomer silicone shell filled with sterile saline solution.
- Silicone gel-filled implants: It is a silicon outer shell filled with silicone gel.
- Gummy bear implant: It is a gel-based implant that holds its shape even if the outer cover tears.
Mastopexy or breast lift is a technique used to shape sagging breasts. It is a surgery to change its shape and to reduce the size of the enlarged areola. The surgery removes the excess skin and tightens the surrounding tissue to raise, reshape, and contour the breasts.
Augmentation Mastopexy Procedure
Like any other procedure, Augmentation Mastopexy starts with a consultation with the surgeon to check if the patient is a suitable candidate for the procedure. The surgeon will review the patient’s medical history, present medical conditions, medications, and allergies and determine whether the patient is suitable or not.
A treatment plan is then framed by the surgeon with the help of the patient. The plan will include the incision site, type of implant, size of implant, and so on. The treatment plan is based on the patient’s desired results.
This procedure is carried out under general anaesthesia. Once the patient is given the anaesthesia, the surgeon will start by cleaning the treatment area. The incision sites are then marked as per the plan considering both the treatments – breast implants and the breast lift. Usually, the incision is made around the areola and a vertical laceration runs from the lower part of the areola to the base of the breast.
The incision site is used to place the implants behind the breast tissue or the pectoral muscle. After placing the implants, the breast is made tighter and firmer by removing excess skin. While the breast lift repositions the nipples that point downwards and raises the breast to enhance it, breast implants increase the size of the breast and shape it.
